An interdenominational group that works with Christian Churches of all denominations to see children won for Christ and nurtured in continuing weekly clubs. These clubs are run in the local churches by the church people themselves.

History of Children for Christ

Children for Christ has been operating since 1981.  It was commenced by David Young, an architect / town planner who had just spent four years working full time in starting Children's Clubs for the Uniting Church in Queensland and South Australia.

He then started independently out of a shed at the rear of his house in Adelaide.  He wanted to touch all Christian denominations which had a desire to reach outside children and win them to Christ.

Now Children for Christ operate four large warehouses in Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane and an associated work in Perth.   Also Children for Christ prepares craft kits in a separate location at East Blaxland, enough for 50,000 children each year.

There are now nine full time workers and 30 part time workers (all of whom are voluntary), all dedicated to reaching children with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Our work has changed over the years.  1984 - 1994 saw a huge expansion of children's clubs.  We saw each year 40 clubs starting in churches of all denominations across NSW.  Each church would host Children for Christ for a 12 hour training seminar on their church property.  This trained workers to run successful clubs.  We averaged 40 training seminars a year.

Since then the church denominations and other children's speakers have taken over the training side, and much of the original evangelical zeal has been lost.  The original training seminars best fitted people in churches to run these continuing weekly clubs.

Now Children for Christ concentrates on conducting 60 missions each year, consisting of 3 Day After School Missions (Mon Tues Wed or Thur Fri Sat), or Holiday Clubs, 9.30 - 12noon or 2pm -4.30pm, in local churches and we also run children's camps.

But churches are still running their weekly Clubs, and we supply choruses, stories, easels, flannel boards and craft kits from our warehouse in Penrith, open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9am to 4.30pm, Tuesday 10.30 am to 6pm, and closed for lunch from noon till 12.30pm.

Also Children for Christ NSW has spent 2 months annually, for the last 10 years in the UK, running Summer Holiday Clubs, and has started major outreaches in East Malaysia and Uganda.

Our work is now running 3 Day After School Missions in the evangelical Sydney Anglican Diocese, and in 2006, many Anglican Churches  have conducted Missions.

After that we propose to reach other church denominations in the same way.  We are also available to conduct School Assemblies at Primary Schools.

In each state, Children for Christ has workers packing craft kits for children.  In NSW alone, we make each year, enough craft kits for 50,000 children.

In January 1986 at the Australia-wide Scout Jamboree, Cataract Dam, NSW,  3,500 scouts were ministered to by Children for Christ in 56 separate groups and 1,000 made decisions for Christ.

There is an awareness in the churches today, of the decline in children's ministry over these last 30 years.  Lay people and ministers alike are really desiring to hear afresh God's call to evangelise children.
